Study Guardian

A Focusmate alternative without a stranger watching

Focusmate proved something important: being seen while you work keeps you working. If pairing with a real person energizes you, it's genuinely great, and this page won't pretend otherwise. But if what you want is the accountability without another human (or their server) in the room, that's the exact reason Study Guardian exists.

The core difference

Focusmate is a person on the other end of a video call. Study Guardian is your own webcam, read by your own PC: it senses whether you're at the desk, notices which apps you're actually in, and shows you how the block went against your own baseline. Frames are analysed in memory and discarded. Nothing is recorded, nothing is uploaded, and nobody can join.

When Focusmate is the better pick

Honestly: if the thing that gets you working is a real person's presence — greeting someone, declaring your goal out loud, the social contract of not abandoning them — pick Focusmate. Software presence and human presence are different forces, and some brains respond much more strongly to the human kind.

When the private version wins

You study at odd hours and don't want to book a partner. You don't love strangers seeing your room, your face, or your bad days. You want a record of how the session actually went, not just that a call happened. Or the privacy question decides it for you: with Study Guardian there is no company that could ever leak, sell, or train on your camera feed, because it never has it.
